FRIDAY LETTER Parashat Beshalach Dvar Torah by Rabbi Moshe Schwartz The following is a humorous take on Parashat Beshalach (Shabbat Shirah). The puns reflect on the entire Exodus narrative with special attention and honor to our beloved NY Jets and the upcoming Super Bowl. MEMO: From the Kiddush Committee We were planning an elaborate celebration this week in honor of the New York Jets trip to the Super Bowl. However, the committee has been plagued with hardships and we have had to postpone our Kiddush for 38 more years. We intended to serve a festive fleishig meal (quail, not other NFL birds), but without a Saint in the congregation to sponsor and the sour housing market (especially in custom made brick homes[1]) we have had to offer a scaled back, triennial version. This week's Kiddush will now contain only saltines and Salt water taffy. There will also be Bloody Mary mix, blackout cake, rice vermincelli and lice cakes. These were left over from the past two weeks as a result of a small, mostly Republican (i.e. "George, not Reggie Bush loving") kiddush whose members did not consume everything (this is also a budget joke based on Pres. Obama's State of the Union address). We know some of you are scratching your heads wondering what to do if you cannot reach the table. Our only advice is to consider leap frogging (green frogs of course!) over a fellow congregant or standing idoly by in your place and a member of Moses' staph will usher you to your seat. This Kiddush has certainly left its Mark (Sanchez). Until next year, Shabbat shalom, The Kiddush Committee [1] The committee wanted to make a joke using D'Brickshaw Ferguson, the all-pro guard for the Jets, but we were unsure if enough people would get it.
