Clubs
Sixth graders meet once per cycle to participate in the club of their choice. This year there are five different clubs.
Crafts
Students create the craft project of their choice. Some students have sewn original 3-D teddy bears. Each teddy bear is unique - made of fabric, leather and fake fur. Other Craft club participants have painted and decorated wooden serving trays. Another group of students have done wood construction, making original baskets.
Crocheting
The Crocheting Club is for both the experienced and the new crocheter. Students make their own projects, such as scarves, using yarns or their own choice. While creating their projects, they learn the basics of crocheting as well as more complicated stitches.
Sports Trivia Club
Members of the Sports Trivia Club watch films to learn about the history of sports. They become masters of sports trivia and work together to design the ideal baseball stadium.
Board Games
Students play various board games and card games. Good sportsmanship emphasized as an important part of game play. This is a fun, relaxed time for students to hone their game skills.
Scrabble
Students build their word power as they play Scrabble. Strategies, such as how to best use those troublesome "q"s, "j"s and "x"s, are taught to the players. Students improve their Scrabble skills as they become familiar with important two and three letter words. Participation in the Newsday Scrabble Championship is open to Scrabble Club members.
