Scope & Sequence

At Solomon Schechter we follow the New York State Scope and Sequence for all grades K-8. We present our Scope and Sequence brochures at Meet the Teacher Night so parents understand what their child is expected to master by the end of the year.

Scope and Sequence is a curriculum plan in which a range of instructional objectives and skills is organized according to the successive levels at which they are taught. It is also an overview of the standards in each grade to ensure success in learning. Scope and Sequence is an invaluable and practical tool for ensuring continuity across the grades and it guides grade level and whole school planning. In addition, it makes links between the learning strategies and texts used in different grades.

At the approach of the twenty-first century, a new set of learning standards for New York students was set in place. These standards represent the core of what all people should know, understand and be able to do as a result of their schooling. Over the course of the years, the New York State Scope and Sequence has changed to increase the level of technology in the curriculum and to allow for more independent thinking, investigating and formulating questions from problem situations.
