Strikers & Sluggers Friday Letter

Friday Letter Archive | Friday Letter Alerts

Dear Sunday Sports Friends,
My daughter, Anna Lelonek, a Junior Coach with both the Solomon's Sluggers and the Solomon's Strikers, is about to hold her Bat Mitzvah Project.  The project will be the Bowl for the Cure, to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Cancer Foundation.  The event will be held at the AMF East Meadow Lanes on Sunday, March 6th, from 1 to 3 PM.  As the Susan G. Komen Foundation helps fight the #1 cause of cancer on Long Island, and unfortunately many of us know someone fighting this terrible disease, Annie wants to help them find the cure soon, to help save an many lives as possible.
Please see the attachments for all the information, pledge sheets, and receipts (for those who request them).  Annie welcomes both our Sunday Sports Players, Solomon Schechter Students, their families and their friends (the more the merrier).  We expect to have bowlers from the Elementary, Middle and High Schools, their parents and their friends.  And you definitely do not have to go to Solomon Schechter to help raise money for this special cause (all are welcome).  Please just make sure to let Annie know by next Monday, February 28th, if you, your family and your friends will be joining us, this way she can prepare properly.  To let Annie know that you will be joining us, either reply back to this e-mail, sending a copy of the filled-in pledge sheet to Annie or call 516-485-3637.  This is a fun way to help raise badly needed funds for cancer care and research.
Please keep the following in mind:
  • Each bowler MUST fill out a Sponsor Sheet (print as many as you need).
  • Each Sponsor Sheet MUST be signed and if the bowler is a minor (under 18), the form MUST be signed by a parent.
  • You can get either Flat Donations (for example, someone can pledge a flat sum of $10 to donate so that you can bowl), AND / OR you can get donations for a per pin amount (for example, someone can sponsor you for 10¢ per pin; but it must be more than the minimum of 5¢ per pin).  It is certainly fine to have BOTH of these types of sponsors for a bowler.
  • We will be bowling the FIRST three (3) games for charity, and if we have time, we can bowl some more for fun.
  • The minimum score that will count towards the donation will be 50 points per game (so if you bowl a game of 45, then your score for that game will go up to a 50).  There will be an award for the High Games and the Top Bowlers (the people with the best total scores in the three games).
  • For those who don't like math, this makes the MINIMUM donation per sponsor come out to $7.50.  Hopefully you will bowl better than that.
  • Again for the math-haters, the MINIMUM each bowler will total from all of their sponsors is $37.50.  If you have one nice benefactor who would like to donate the $37.50, so that you do not have to worry about searching for other sponsors than that would be fine.  But remember, the goal here is to raise as MUCH MONEY as possible to help fight cancer.  So the more sponsors you can get, the more money we can raise to help find a cure.  And again, the Top Fundraisers will be recognized for their hard work and efforts.
  • Once the fundraiser is over, we ask that everyone go out to their sponsors and collect their pledges.  For those who make flat donations, you can try to collect it earlier if possible, perhaps at the time they make the pledge (this is usually a little easier on you and it gives you one less person to chase after to collect money).
  • We ask that the everyone please get their pledges returned by Friday, March 11th.
  • Finally our thanks for your willingness to help others.
We hope that you can join us,
Dr. Dave Lelonek,
The Commish Emeritus,
Anna's Dad
