HS Drama Presents The Mystery of Edwin Drood

January 25, 2017
By SSLI Communications

HS Drama Club presents The Mystery of Edwin Drood

A musical by Rupert Holmes
Directed by Joan Cohen

On  March 23rd, 25th and 26th,the High School drama club will present the Tony award winning musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood at the Long Island Children's Museum.  This who-dunnit comedy is based on Charles Dickens's unfinished novel and each night the audience literally gets to decide the outcome by voting on which character they believe murdered Edwin Drood.

This means that our hard working students have to work even harder and prepare a variety of different endings depending on the results of the the audience's vote. Was it the choirmaster, John Jasper who is secretly in love with Edwin Drood's  fiancée.? Or was it one of the Landless twins from Ceylon? Then again it might have been the vicar, or Princess Puffer the fallen madame, or Rosa Bud or the stage manager! You will get to decide. Tickets now on sale.  ALL PERFORMANCES TAKE PLACE AT THE LONG ISLAND CHILDREN’S MUSEUM 11 Davis Ave., Garden City NY 11530

Thurs. March 23rd @ 7:30 pm

Sat. March 25th @ 9:00 pm
Sun. March 26th @ 7:00 pm

The SSLI HS Drama Club is pleased to present the acclaimed comedy

by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman
Directed by Joan Freeman Cohen

You Can't Take It With You is the story of the zany Sycamore  household where every family member pursues just what he or she pleases. Grandpa collects snakes, his daughter Penny thinks she is a playwright because someone delivered a typewriter to her home by mistake. Her husband Paul makes firecrackers in his basement with the help of Mr. De Pinna, an iceman who showed up at the Sycamore doorstep one day and never left. Their daughter, Essie, imagines that she's a prima ballerina even though her Russian teacher Kolenkhov whispers "Confidentially, she steeenks!".  Essie's husband, Ed  who'd rather play a xylophone than work, spends his free time selling Essie's candy and printing  anarchistic slogans. The one normal member of the household is Alice Sycamore in love with wealthy Tony Kirby. Naturally, when the stuffy, aristocratic Kirbys come to the Sycamores for dinner, the event is a disaster. Will this mean the end of Tony and Alice's romance? Also thrown into this mix are a bunch of FBI agents, the Internal Revenue, a drunk actress and a former Grand Duchess from Russia. Somehow, all these characters come together to create a wonderful evening of hilarity and delight. The play won a Pulitzer Prize in 1937 for its excellence.

SHOW DATES ARE: Thurs. Dec. 1@7:30pm and Sat. Dec. 3rd@7:30pm

Please click the button on your right to purcahse tickets

Please come out and support the 24 students and countless community members who have been working tirelessly to present this wonderful play. You will have a great night of theater.
